HD DVD

by Eric Kociecki

Tuesday, February 26, 2008

I know I'm a day late with this news, but Microsoft dropped the price of their HD DVD addon for the Xbox 360 to $50. That means you get the HD DVD drive, a media center remote and 6 HD DVD movies all for $50 (King Kong in the box and 5 others by mail-in-rebate). The unit is discontinued so get one quick, plus to qualify for the 5 extra movies you need to purchase it by February 28th. I just bought one yesterday and got it hooked up to my computer. Watching King Kong in HD is amazing. Now I just need 5 Centimeters per Second to get an HD DVD release.

Warning: HD DVD is dead. Blu-ray won the fight. But I still think this is a great deal.

Where are you Maya and Pearl?

I just got the new Ace Attorney today, and I must say, I do enjoy it. I am only on the first day of trial of the second case, and I am fairly hooked. I have run into one, well, two aspects that concerns me. Yes, Phoenix is in the game and is not a lawyer. My concerns lie elsewhere. Maya Fey, who was in all three of Phoenix Wright games, and Pearl Fey, who was in two, are not even mentioned. MAYA AND PEARL, WHERE ARE YOU?

Well, unless the answer is in the game, then nobody tell me.

5 Centimeters Per Second

I just finished watching this amazing anime and cannot wait until the DVD is released on March 4th. If this movie gets released in HD I will buy whatever device I need to play it on the spot.

5 Centimeters Per Second

Have you ever seen prettier power lines?

Update: Apparently this is available on HD DVD in Japan, but there are no English subtitles. Guess I'll just have to learn moonspeak.

Do List

by Eric Kociecki

Thursday, February 14, 2008

  • Next/Previous links below the main page for when there are more than ten articles.
  • Update management page to allow use of all the features in the database.
  • Display article categories as links under each article.
  • Make the site prettier.

The database is already in place and ready for most of these changes, but updating the management site to properly use the author and categories fields will take awhile.

Site Design and Management

by Eric Kociecki

This site does not look like much right now for two reasons. The first is that I am pretty bad with creating even simple graphics. Instead I tried to add a bit of eye candy using pure CSS. Both the drop shadows around the articles and the rounded corners around the header are created using nothing but CSS code. The second reason is that I have spent a lot of time on other aspects of the site. For example, the main site uses all proper xhtml code. To validate this site or any others you would like to check, click on the links at the bottom of the page. I have also been spending some time on making an easy-to-use site management page. Unfortunately the management site does not handle apostrophes correctly, so if you get any errors while using it, try taking out all of the apostrophes from your text. I will be continuing to develop this site over the next few weeks, so stick around and check out the upcoming changes.

Drop Shadows and Other CSS Issues

by Eric Kociecki

The boxes around each of these articles have a small drop shadow designed to add a bit of visual depth to the site. Unfortunately, IE 7 has a tendency to mess these up pretty bad. Until I get them fixed, I would ask that you please view this site in any of the following browsers: IE 6, Firefox 2, Opera 9. However, the green box around the title looks too big in IE 6, and the article dates are simply missing. In IE 7 and FireFox, the dates are just below where they're supposed to be. So the moral here is: Opera rules for CSS!

Seriously though, I'll be working on fixing the site to look better in non-compliant browsers. Until then, I apologize for the mess.

Update: I got rid of the drop shadows and was able to fix the article date issue. For those of you still using IE 6, you should probably upgrade to one of the other browsers mentioned here. They're all free.

New Game/Anime

I recently finished watching/playing this great/mediocre/horrible game/anime. The beginning was *adjective*, until *event* about halfway through. From that point on it was *different adjective*.
