Matsuricon starts tomorrow. Most of the Ending B crew will be heading over tomorrow for a one-day visit. Kim will be selling her art as usual. This will be the smallest convention I've been to. Last years attendance was around 650 people. We'll post more about the con after we check it out.

PS3 Slim Announced!

by Steve Barringer

Tuesday, August 18, 2009

After months of speculation of either a PS3 price drop or slimmed down console Sony finally let the ball drop earlier today. At Gamescon in Cologne, Germany, Sony announced a PS3 slim hitting retailers soon. Before reading any further I should warn that all that is official is the announcement of the PS3 slim and the price. Sony's official website hasn't been updated yet to reflect this new addition to the PS3 family. The new console is priced at $299, $100 cheaper than the current cheapest model. As far as speculation is concerned, the release date could be as early as next week or as late as the first week in September. Most rumors are saying that the slim comes with a 120GB hard drive, 1 dual shock 3 controller, blu-ray player and 1080p support. These are the specs that were found in the Kmart PS3 Slim Page ad on their website, but have since been taken off. No word yet on whether or not the new console is backwards compatible. Kotaku is reporting that the new model is about 1/3rd smaller and lighter than the original model.

I came across Dragonica while I was reading through an issue of MMOZine and promptly forgot about it. From what I recall, they mentioned that it was a fun game, but should not occupy the player for more than a few hours at a time.

Still with me? A few hours does not seem like a lot of time, but for someone that may have a busy schedule, perhaps that is for the better. I decided that since the open beta of this game was coming up, that it would be a good idea if I got into the game before it went gold.

Wait, this is one of those "cash shop" games, I.E., you are given a certain amount for free, but ultimately get to pay for things like items or additional content. In this game's case, it's mostly items, and from what I could see, they accentuated glamor rather than function. This is reminiscent of another game I play, Guild Wars, where the most expensive armor in the game, at 15000 gold plus the cost of materials, is substantially more expensive than the armor you can get before you get to the max level content, 1000 gold plus the cost of materials... there's no difference! It's all whether you want your character to look good, and in the case of the most expensive armor, you will be no more useful than someone with cheap looking armor.

I'll leave Guild Wars to another topic, but since the beta of this game is coming up on August 18th (at 5:00PM EST), I figured it would be a good time to let everyone know who might be interested in a fun side scrolling action based MMO. That's right, action based, and you can use a gamepad if you want.

If you are interested, feel free to check out THQ's Dragonica website and since I'll be playing there, I will update this post at a later time with the server I'm playing on (as well as a few screenshots).

Enjoy!

Update: True to my word, I said I would give you the server I'm on. Well, little did I know that it looks like it's just the "Vyvern", and I have a thief named "Siledra", so feel free to message me if you enjoyed my review, or want to party!

Thursday, July 9, 2009

It's that time again! The Ending B crew is heading to Baltimore for Otakon next week. Once again, we'll be joined by Kim from MHHO. Most of the group will be cosplaying again this year. If memory serves, we'll have Craig as Kyle Hyde from Hotel Dusk, Steve as Ryu from Breath of Fire, and myself as Syaoran from Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles. We'll be posting pics and updates from Baltimore starting this coming Thursday assuming we can find some free WiFi to use.

Futurama Returns in 2010

by Craig Olsen

Friday, June 12, 2009

I know that it's not anime or game news, but I have to let everyone know...

A scene from the first Futurama movie

Futurama is returning to television!

According to Entertainment Weekly, Comedy Central has ordered 26 new episodes of Futurama to start airing sometime in 2010. Just like Family Guy, the article sites the biggest reason for its return is because of a loyal fan-base, as well as DVD and movie sales.

It seems that fans have a lot more power than we may have realized. I say we use our new found power to get a new Chrono Trigger game made.

Congratulations Futurama! Here's hoping that you come back strong!
